If It Ain’t Working Fix It

It appears the trend in coaching today is to do "XYZ". It would seem since everyone is doing this, I should as well. What I don't understand, is why follow a program that isn't producing Olympic level athletes?
If discus practice is traditionally 10 power throws, 10 half turns, 10 South Africans and 10 full throws, why isn't this program producing 200ft throwers? Some may come out of this system but not enough to justify how many people do it.

If you want to produce great marks in throwers you can't follow the traditional standards of practice. The reason why there are so many coaches is because it's easy to find a warm body to have people run and do push ups. Instead of following the same old path, find a route which fits you and your athlete. Each person has their needs, and wants something different. At practices I've found myself being strict, friendly, empathic and angry toward different people all at the same time.
If you can't match the mood of your athletes then they won't connect with you. Instead of forcing them into your ideology, open up and adjust to the infinite possibilities that will be presented to you on a daily basis. Rather than waiting for them to come to your way of life, open up to them and so much more will get done.
