Alfred State Update 4/9/11

Yesterday we were at University of Rochester for their Alumni Invitational.

Mo struggled with her first turn but still managed to get a 3m PR and throw 32.99 (108-2). She took 8th at nationals last year with 28m so she's 5m beyond that already. I'm hoping for she finishes in the top 5.

Will ended up NM in both discus and shot. They had minimum marks and weren't marking anything under that distance, which I'll be blogging about that soon. He had a good day in hammer though, throwing 31.76 which is a 4m PR for him. He's about 4-5m out of qualifying for nationals. I'd be happy if he finished the season over 35m.

Chris is still having trouble putting his throw together. He's come a long way from the beginning of the year when he was finishing perpendicular to the field. He did have a foul that was easily 41-43 though. I still think he can throw 45+ before the season is over. With any luck he can pull out a good performance at nationals and finish top 3.

Andy barely made a legal throw for shot. His best is 12 mid and the minimum was 10.5. Discus he made up for a terrible performance last week by throwing 32m, which is good as he never practices it.  Hammer went great. He somehow squeezed into finals and bombs one out to 46.03. That throw is about a 3m PR for him, a 10m improvement from last year, just missed the school record by 2m and probably 4m away from a winning throw at nationals.

If Chris can get a hold of a good throw and Andy keeps this steep climb going we could end up with 1-2 at Nationals. This group looked virtual hopeless at the beginning of indoor now looks like it could end up being a National Champion and 2 All-Americans. Real proud of these guys and I hope they keep up the hard work.
