Avoid Over Coaching at All Cost

When I started I came in knowing everything about throwing and wanted to prove to everyone that I was a genius. Shortly afterwards they proved me right. They didn't know what I was saying, what they were doing or how to even begin the long list of things I told them to correct.
My favorite story with this is with Rob, the athlete my second year who did well. I did a video day where I compared everyone's throws with a pro using the same style. Most people brushed it off and ignored everything I said. It was too detailed to take anything useful away from it.
Rob however did not. He listened to every word and by the end of my presentation his eyes looked like they were about to pop out of his head.
The next day at practice I thought my presentation blew their minds. Apparently I was right…Rob took everything I said to heart. He literally forgot how to throw. His mind was so overloaded that he couldn't piece anything together.
That changed my whole outlook. Now I bite my tongue the majority of practice, pick ONE thing and put a laser focus on it. I will actually purposely ignore other parts of the throw just so I won't mention them out of habit. I rather focus on one thing a month, rather than overcoaching.

No one can teach you how to throw far, they can only help you figure it out for yourself
