Alfred State Update 4/17/11

Today we were at SUNY Brockport for their invitational.

The conditions where terrible.  It started with an insane wind.  We knew rain was coming so mother nature decided to laugh at us and it started snowing.

Will came out and opened hammer with a PR of 33.14.  Just over a meter best for him.  He said after his third throw that he felt he had much more in him but just didn't get it.  I'm pretty sure he'll throw 35+ next week or soon.  He also threw a big PR in discus, 30.10, which is a 3-4m PR for him.

Chris had good tempo during the warm ups but when he tries to speed up he throws his shoulders to create that speed and throws his balance all off.  He's throwing easy 35s in warm up and hard 39s during competition.  He really is so close to a good throw but doesn't seem to trust his technique.

Andy's had easy warm up throw that went 45, I've never seem him throw so far with so little effort.  His next 2 warm ups and 3 throws he was all over the place.  His only mark was a sloppy 2 turn where he just let it go for 33.95m.  Is biggest problem is his emotions get the best of him.  He is set up to throw 48-50m tomorrow but mentally he is filled with doubt and focuses too much on the negative.

Mo threw hammer over 2 hours after she got there.  By then she was frozen and her back was killing her.  Regardless she wouldn't give up and went out with alot of effort.  I like the heart but I don't want her killing herself at a meaningless meet.  She is still having trouble with her first turn being late but still managed to pull out a 31.02.  She's 3-4 meters out of 1st place in NJCAA, hopefully in 3 weeks she can figure it out to be a national champion.
