My Summer Goals

- Back Injuries
- Last year Rob was limited for a while with a back injury. This year 3 out of my 4 throwers had some degree of back pain during the season. One so severe they sat out most of the indoor season.
- I plan on getting a Stewart McGill book to learn how they happen and ways to prevent/fix them. Then incorporate them into my training
- Learn More in General
- People in my field have a 20-40 year head start on me. I’m not going to catch up by being lazy
- Read my ass off. Don’t get lazy with my blogs I need to make sure I stay on top of those daily so they don’t build. Also, I want to read at least 1 hour a day, preferably 3. 3 hours because Charles Poliquin does 2 hours a day and he’s been at it longer.
- Learn Javelin or Discus
- I’m functioning in discus and I know pretty much nothing about javelin. I can probably get by without javelin but I feel it’s a big weakness of mine.
- I might be able to work with a guy who is good with Javelin. If so, I want to learn how to throw it to be a better throws coach in general. If I don’t work with him I want to focus more on discus.
- Fix my warm up
- I can’t explain my obsession with the warm up part of practice but every single year I throw out my previous one and make a new one.
- I want to write up a new one soon and use it over the summer with the club I’m coaching for. Instead of throwing out everything I already do I plan on making a combination of them all and cutting out anything that was unnessary.
- Have one of my athletes break a meet record this summer
- The records besides hammer are all pretty low. I love my guys breaking records.
- I have Rob, Antoine and Matt this summer. Rob and Antoine can go after the 16lb shot record and Matt is a monster so he might have a chance at either shot or discus. And you never know, maybe some of the girls I haven’t met you are doing the club can pick up a record too.
