Alfred State Update 5/5/11
Alfred State Update
NJCAA Division 3 National Championship at Alfred State College
(Nationals at home is bad ass)
Will had a good outing but didn't do his best. I didn't expect him to either. I lined it up so he would peak last week so he could qualify for nationals. He missed it by a little so the head coach wild carded him in. He came out with a throw of 35.06 early and didn't make finals. He had a great year though, he opened at 26m and hoped to finish over 30. He ended up with a 10m improvement on the year.
Chris did great. His warm ups were as far or farther than all of Andy's which he was warming up well too. Chris' first couple of throws didn't go so well for him. Coming out of prelims his best throw was 39 which got him in at 7th place. His throw of finals he got it together finally and threw 43 and ended with a best of 44.71m just missing the 45 I wanted him to get. I'm positive his warm up throws were farther because after the 44 I said it wouldn't be a good throw, it was but I was comparing it to the bombs he had during warm ups. He ended with a 5m improvement on the year and finished 4th at the meet.
Andy was killing warm ups. His three turns looked awesome and I'm pretty sure he had a couple over 50m. I wanted to make sure he didn't have a blow up so I had him do 2 turns for his first throw which was 47.65m. Every other throw he was off. I don't think he had another legal throw. He finished 2nd and had a 10.5m improvement from last year.
Mo is the only true sad story of the meet. She was missing her first turn completely. Her first throw was a 33-35m foul and after fouling her 2nd throw ended up getting a 27m mark on her third which wasn't enough to make finals. She had it in her to take top 3 but after talking to her she said she put too much pressure on herself to do well. It sucks that it couldn't have been a different meet but it happens. She still had a great year finishing with a 6m improvement from last year.
Overall that means my guys had a 31m improvement on the year which is great. This was a good start to my time at Alfred and I'm hoping next year we do even better.
