Next year I want to take a different approach to lifting. There is a lot of literature which talks about how people respond differently to lifting. Routines need to be dynamic in order to prevent plateaus and boredom.
What I want to try is selecting 6-7 work out routines which all build off one another. I would have my athletes do one until they are unable to increase the weight; or become bored . They would then move onto the next work out. This allows me other options such as switching out the lifts they plateau on with something similar (Like back squats to front squats). It will work the same general muscles but break them out of the routine.


The other thing
 I want to attempt is to tailor the work outs to each individual. Their routines will all have the same basic focuses (cleans, snatch, squats, push press and bench press), but naturally they will have different strengths and weaknesses. To address this, my aim is to include one lift that focuses on developing one of their strengths, and another which targets a weakness. Take for example someone who is quick but weak. I’d assign them one plyometric based exercise (box jumps), as well as something to increase overall strength (heavy squats).

As you can see my drive
 is to idientify an efficient way of developing / implementing individualized work outs. It's difficult to create different, person-centered work outs for every athlete you coach (especially in large groups). They all need to work on the same basic things, but it is critical to address other issues as well.
